Quartz stone is an environmentally friendly and green new building material that is free from radioactive pollution and can be reused. It is a polymer composite material formed by vacuum high-pressure molding using unsaturated polyester resin (UPR) or methyl methacrylate resin (PMMA) organic polymer material as the matrix, quartz powder, particles, etc. as fillers, pigments and other auxiliary agents. Quartz is a stable mineral at room temperature and is insoluble in water, sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid, and nitric acid. Hardness 7, specific gravity about 2.65, melting point 1713 ℃. The luster appears glassy and sometimes fatty. Pure texture is colorless; Impurities include red, yellow, blue, black, brown, purple, and green; Transparent to opaque, brittle in nature. The fracture surface is shell shaped or uneven. The crystal is hexagonal in shape, with horizontal stripes on the surface of the columns. There is a difference between left crystal and right crystal. Double crystals are very common. Usually in the form of crystal clusters or granular or blocky aggregates.

The quartz ore extracted from mines, after processing, is generally referred to as quartz sand with a particle size below 120 mesh sieve. The product that passes through a 120 mesh sieve is called quartz powder. Quartz sand is a hard, wear-resistant, and chemically stable silicate mineral, with SiO2 as its main mineral component. Its color is milky white or colorless semi transparent, with a hardness of 7. It is brittle without cleavage, with a shell like fracture surface and a glossy oil like appearance. Its density is 2.65 and its bulk density (1.6 for 1-20 mesh and 1.5 for 20-200 mesh) has obvious anisotropy in chemical, thermal, and mechanical properties. It is insoluble in acid and slightly soluble in KOH solution, with a melting point of 1750 ℃. Quartz sand is mainly used as a water purification material, raw material for glass manufacturing, casting additive and flux, raw material for ceramic blanks and glazes, raw material for refractory materials, main raw material for smelting ferrosilicon, metallurgical flux, casting sand, grinding materials (sandblasting, hard grinding paper, sandpaper, sand cloth, etc.), raw material for metallurgy, building materials, silicon compounds and water glass, amorphous silica micro powder, improving the wear resistance of plastics and rubber, abrasives, etc.

Quartz powder, also known as silicon micro powder. Silicon micropowder is made of natural quartz (SiO2) or fused silica (natural quartz is amorphous SiO2 after high temperature melting and cooling) through crushing, ball milling (or vibration, airflow milling), flotation, acid cleaning purification, high-purity water treatment and other processes. Silicon micro powder is a non-toxic, odorless, and pollution-free inorganic non-metallic material. Due to its excellent properties such as good temperature resistance, acid and alkali corrosion resistance, poor thermal conductivity, high insulation, low expansion, stable chemical properties, and high hardness, it is widely used in chemical, electronic, integrated circuit (IC), electrical, plastic, coating, advanced paint, rubber, national defense and other fields.

Although the main components of quartz stone, quartz sand, and silica micro powder are the same, their main application areas are still different. When using them, you should choose the corresponding products according to your own needs.
