   Quartz sand is an important industrial mineral raw material, widely used in filter material, glass, ceramics and refractory, smelting, construction, chemical industry and machinery, filler, electronics and other industries.

1. Quartz sand for glass industry

Quartz sand, as the main raw material of glass industry, has three aspects, namely, chemical composition, non disorder and particle size composition.

2. Machinery industry

The silica content of the quartz sand used for forging is high, and the other components are low, which is easy to ensure the fire resistance. Therefore, the content of silica is used as the main acceptance basis for the quartz sand for forging.

(1) Sand for cast steel: the content of silica should be more than 97%;

(2) Sand for cast iron: the content of silica should be more than 85%;

(3) Sand for forging non-ferrous alloy: the content of silica should be more than 75%;

(4) Sand for abrasive: good roundness, no angular, particle size 0.8-1.5mm, sio2>98%, Al2O3 < 0.72%, Fe2O3 < 0.18%;

(5) Chemical industry rust removal sand blasting:

SiO2 > 99.6%, Al2O3 < 0.18%,

Fe2O3 was less than 0.02%, the particle size was 50-70 mesh, the shape of the particle was spherical, and the Mohr hard was 7.

3. Superhard material

At present, the silicon carbide produced by our industry is divided into two types: dark silicon carbide and green silicon carbide.

Black silicon carbide is made from quartz sand, petroleum coke and high quality silica as main raw materials, and is made by high temperature smelting in resistance furnace. Green silicon carbide is made by high temperature smelting by resistance furnace with petroleum coke and high quality silica as main raw materials and salt as additives.

4. Chemical industry

In the field of chemical products processing, quartz sand is the main raw material for producing potassium silicate, sodium silicate and various forms of silica.

The purity of sodium silicate is higher than that of glass grade quartz sand in container. For example, iron (Fe2O3) is less than 0.03%, and the content of heavy mineral should be less than 5 × 10-6. In addition, it requires higher requirements for Al2O3 and Cao, and its content is less than 0.1%. In some cases, the requirements are higher, and the content is 0.01% to 0.02% respectively.
